Summer Style: Fun and Function

Sorry spring, summer is here, and here to stay.  For any fashionista it's imperative to stay stylish and functional: it's a balance we all need to keep. Obviously, MyDROBE is here to keep you practical and gorgeous, and we've had our eye on  a couple of designers who are combining form and function to keep you chic and cool at the same time.

There's a new trend going around, and it's quite "clear" what it is. Eh eh, see what we did there? Check out some of these styles by Prada and Charlotte Olympia.

Sheer tops are also a great way to stay a step in front of the heat, while looking sexy and stylish at the same time. Here are some great "peekaboo" looks by Christopher Kane.

And who doesn't love a good cutout to look great and keep cool.
These beautiful Reiss pumps feature some cutouts.

Then you have these stunning cut out dresses by Stella McCartney.

Models aren't the only ones wearing Stella McCartney either, take a look at some of your favorite celebrities rockin' her style. From left to right, Stella herself, Miranda Kerr, and Jamma Mays.

90's Fashion Blast from the Past

Everyone loves a trip down memory lane, and no one more so than those who were kids or teens during the 90's. It was the era of Boy Meets World, Doug Funny, All That, and of course, the Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Yet even more iconic than these tv shows, were the style trends. Bad hairdos, worse accessories, and probably the most interesting patterns and color schemes of any decade, ever. They say history repeats itself. That's true, at least for fashion. Retro fads brush off the dust from styles of yesteryear.  Let's take a look back into the years when things were just more simple, and let's see what has changed.

Before we really delve into this little side by side comparison, I think we should take care of the elephant in the room. Overalls.

air

I don't know where and when these bad boys faded into obscurity, but here's to hoping they stay there. A long. Long. Long time. Ashton still manages to look good. Somehow.

There were very few things that NSYNC or the Backstreet Boys could have done wrong in the 90's.

I'm sorry to say that the bucket hat was definitely one of them.

There is no celebrity or person that lived through the 90's that could come close to topping Will Smith's colorful and zany style (I think zany is a word reserved for the 90's as well.)

Let's move on to some accessories, shall we?

Tattoo chokers. Enough said.

The pooka shell. The god damned pooka shell. It was understood: you go to the beach, you must return with pooka shells draped around your neck.

Butterfly clips? Anyone? Ok. I'll just go ahead and put 10 in.

Let's check out some of the hairstyles our favorite celebs were rockin'.

I don't know how anyone ever thought this looked good.

What the hell is going on here?

Anyone remember the Rachel? I do. No Rachel, your name isn't Jennifer. Not with this hairstyle.

It's like everyone woke up, rolled out of bed, looked in the mirror, and said "I'm gonna freak some people out today." So you've taken a walk down memory lane, seen the fashion faux pas of the past, and maybe placed an order for a ten set of tattoo chokers. Luckily, I don't think these styles will make a huge come back. So strap on your moon shoes, grab your inflatable furniture, and turn up that Britney Spears CD, because we're leaving the 90's in style.

Michael Kors Q4 Profits Soar

Luxury designer and retailer Michael Kors boasted an enormous profit increase for their fourth quarter sales. Their sales more than doubled from last years earnings, jumping 57.1 percent.

For the three months preceding the report, their sales skyrocketed to $101.1 million, which is a meteoritic rise from last year's report of $43.6 million. This increase in revenue comes at the heels of a decade of brand management and inking some very important licensing agreements.

These agreements include time pieces with Fossil, eyewear with Marchon Eyewear, swimwear with Warnaco Swimwear, and socks with American Essentials. This has drastically expanded their market share and increased their popularity.

This increase in popularity is in an interesting demographic: teens. Michael Kors has made its way into niche of moderately affordable luxury bags and clothes that companies like Coach have dominated for years.

Michael Kors, born Karl Anderson Jr., created the company in 1981, initially only a womenswear company. He partnered with retailers and department stores like Bloomingdales, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Bergdorf Goodman.

In 2004, Michael Kors launched MICHAEL, a subsection of the larger designer that was intended to be more affordable and to meet the demand for accessible luxury goods. With this launch, 350 stores were opened in North America, solidifying their foothold on the fashion world and setting the stage for their current success.

We at MyDROBE love a good fashion success story. If you'd like to add to that revenue increase, you can check out some of their products below.

St. Tropez's Vilebrequin Makes a Big Splash

Remember the days when "Point Break" and "Baywatch" determined the accepted sexy style of men's swimwear? Well, we think those days are over.

We all know the Hoff never goes out of style.
Even when he's crying and eating a cheeseburger at the same time. Tough life.

Looking good on the beach is a lot more than just washboard abs and a golden tan. Even though they'll probably be the only thing you're wearing, swim trunk style is important. We at MyDROBE think you should be wearing Vilebrequin.

Okay, maybe it's still about washboard abs.

The St. Tropez French swimwear brand has been around since 1971. They specialize in making colorfully printed swim trunks that stand somewhere in between the short european style and the american board short.

The price tag can be a little hefty, but honestly, can you put a price on good style? I think not. Some of our favorite celebrities and trendsetters can be seen sporting these colorful little beauties, like Leonardo Dicaprio, Andrea Casiraghi, Jack Nicholson, and even Prince Harry.

Cool look. Now lose the dog.

The best thing about these shorts is that you can tailor them around your individual style. Looking for something simple and elegant? Check. Bright and extroverted? Check.

The brand has opened up stores away from its native France, most recently opening one in Montreal. The hype is spreading, get on it Drobers. Check out some of their trunks right here.
