Wearable Fashion Tech

We all know that the technology world is expanding exponentially, but did you know what it's doing for fashion? These are some interesting ways that fashion and technology are coming together.

LED lights on a swim suit? I'll take it.

Screw your iPhone speakers. Just flip open your clutch, and have a party wherever you are.

Eye tracking technology allows this dress to move where you look. Perverts.

We all know about the Jawbone wristband and Nike trackers, but what about tracking performance through your bra?

Here it is, the coup de gras, Google Glass. They don't look great, but they are damned cool.

Look forward to the future, Drobers!

ADEAM: Honor the Old, Bring in the New

Hanako Maeda's company ADEAM has come out of almost nowhere. ADEAM is an anagram for Hanako's last name, Maeda. It's part of her company's philosophy. Honor the old, but bring in the new.

This philosophy is ingrained in Japanese culture, and in Hanako's design. She states, "We search out the beautiful in what we have inherited and imbue that beauty with new meaning in the present." Well we've found that beauty in her clothes.

Though born in Japan, Maeda moved to New York at the age of five, living there most of her life, and attended Columbia. There she studied Anthropology and Art History, but her real passion was designing.

In 2011, Maeda launched her label, ADEAM with a collection of 15 designs. A year later, the Japanese government gave her an invitation to present the company's Fall 2012 collection at Shanghai Fashion Week. ADEAM was subsequently invited to the Spring 2013 Tokyo Fashion Week and the Fall 2013 New York Fashion Week.

The style of her designs parallels her philosophy: conservative cuts and simple colors, but interesting combinations of materials and pieces create an entirely new spin on old ideas.

Charlie Like The River: They're more than okay.

In 2011, Charlie Hudson took a piece of balsa wood, and started painting. He strung a chain through it, put it around his neck, and Charlie Like the River was born. The Burlington Vermont brand has since grown in popularity, and so has Charlie as an artist.

All the necklaces are hand painted by Charlie, and the craftsmanship is beautiful. It's not just people in Burlington who are rocking these bad boys. There's a wide range of musicians who are sporting these works of art, from Mac Miller to Trevor Hall, and they're becoming something big.

Charlie has started to commission work from musicians to do their art, everything from fan pieces to album artwork. Cam Meekins, whose album hit #3 on the iTunes top charts, had Hudson create the artwork for his album "Lamp City."

He's surrounded by a team of artists, photographers, and directors who are all breaking through into popular culture. Check out his promotional video right below to get a feel what they're working with.

Keep an eye out for Charlie Like the River, because they're definitely more than okay. You can buy the pieces from his website here

FIVE NEW FEATURED MAVENS THIS WEEK!

The New Frontier of Men's Fashion

There's a saying, "Art is never finished." Trends and styles are broken down, recreated, and born anew. Fashion, an art form itself, is no different. Yet historically, it has been women's fashion that really sees this change. But not so much anymore.

In the 20th century, the evolution of men's fashion remained largely stagnant. Trends changed only slightly, save for a few exceptions. For the everyday man, it was simple suits, broad shoulders, and dark colors. Think Don Draper and Roger Sterling.

Things started to shift a little in the 80's. Bright colors popped up, and though they were horrific looking, it set the stage for the current state of men's style. Thankfully, it's no longer okay to wear a turtleneck and a red suit while sporting a well-groomed mustache. (I'm looking at you, Ron Burgundy)

The 90's saw a bit of a retreat of the bold trends of the 80's. Men went back to simple colors, but the styles started to shift to slimmer cut suits, becoming more of a silhouette, and closer to what we're seeing now. When the pinstripes were off though, we did see a lot of denim, crazy patterns, and some interesting combinations.

Then came the millenium, and everything changed. Men start dressing up; making it personal. They added pieces of flair to pin striped suits: a flashy belt, new patterns, daring shoes, and of course, the colorful pocket square.

Now let's jump to the present day. More men are buying clothes for themselves, catering to their own sense of style rather than a recent trend. Designers are now focusing more on men, and we're seeing some more daring pieces in both professional and casual styles. And we love it.

In the professional world, suits are getting slimmer, cuts are more form fitting to the body, and we're seeing a lot of additional flair. On the casual side, there's no clearly definable style. Some labels pop up that have been around for awhile, but now there are designers who cater to each of these. Think prep, hipster, boho, bro, etc.

As much as men's fashion is evolving, we don't think any of us want to see a shift to men wearing make up or looking like they belong in the Hunger Games...or do we? But it bodes well for retailers that more men are becoming fashion conscious. The more they buy, the more the industry can grow and advance.

Yeesh. Talk about hair flair.

We've got some awesome pieces for you to shop below, check them out.

Here's to the future of men's fashion. Let's see what you've got boys.

Marc Jacobs Gets Even

It's hard not to root for the little guy. David and Goliath, Ali and Frazier, and now, Kidult and Marc Jacobs. Usually I'd applaud the ballsy anti-consumerist antics of the graffiti artist only known as Kidult, but when the response of Marc Jacobs is so perfect it's hard not to slap Goliath on the back.

Two days ago, the Marc Jacobs store in Paris received a facelift. The number "686" was spray painted in huge green numbers, surrounded by dollar signs.

Credit for the work was taken by an anonymous twitter account, simply known as @therealkidult. The vandalism was a response to a similar situation a year before in SoHo.

The Marc Jacobs building in SoHo was smeared by pink spray paint, stating one word, "ART." In response, Marc Jacobs took the picture, pressed it on to tees, and sold it for $686.

A year later, the same method has thwarted the would-be anarchist. Marc Jacobs tweeted that they "support the arts" and is selling trucker hats (ew) and tee shirts with the new "686" graffiti printed on them.

There hasn't been any response from Kidult, but we're pretty sure there will be soon enough. Until then, Goliath has this round. Lets see what you've got, Kidult.

Check out some of our favorite Marc Jacobs pieces right here.

Serpentine Summer: London

On June 26th, the Serpentine Gallery in London held their famous Serpentine Summer Party, attracting attendees like Sarah Jessica Parker (Hello Carrie!) Mick Jagger, and Ewan McGregor. The party is a well known outdoor event held in a tea house pavilion in the center of Hyde Park.

We love you SJP! Looking stunning in a metallic Naeem Khan fringed flapper dress, and jewels by FL.

The  Serpentine Gallery is one of London's most famous art venues, and boasts a huge collection of modern and contemporary art. But this isn't just a place for art snobs. Supermodels and fashionistas alike wore event-holder L'Wren Scott's line, and they all looked stunning. Here are some of the looks.

Georgia Jagger in this gorgeous red beaded dress by L'Wren Scott

Naomi Campbell looking great in that David Koma dress and Alaia boots

Eva Herzigova also wearing L'Wren Scott

Daphne Guinness and L'Wren Scott both sporting L'Wren Scott dresses.

The gallery tries to pander to all ages through its architecture, art, and education. The gallery attracts about 800,000 people a year.

The Serpentine Gallery

The party serves as an annual fundraiser to support the gallery. It is known to be one of the hottest events in London, with an extremely selected guest list.

Beautiful Kate Moss dressed in a Saint Laurent black blazer over a sheer black dress with a plungin neck line. And of course, wearing Christian Louboutin black heels.

Designs from local artists and designers are shown all around the event, creating a beautiful artistic aura that makes tickets a desired rarity.

Going to your own gala? MyDROBE has got you covered. Check out these great styles below.
