Versace for All?

Italian fashion powerhouse Versace may be going public, sources say. The brand opened their first boutique in Milan's Via de Spiga in 2000, a humble beginning for their now legendary status as a designer and  retailer.

Since that time, Versace has exploded. They design and market luxury clothing, accessories, make up, and home furnishings. It hasn't always been rainbows and butterflies for the brand, however. In 2001, they hit a financial crisis and had to restructure the company, and now it seems they are restructuring again, but this time in the form of an IPO.

We won't know the real truth until at least October, but that doesn't stop us from guessing. Now we know that their products are amazing, but will a public offering change that?

We've seen it too many times, and not just in fashion. A company that doesn't pander to investors and shareholders is a company that keeps its own style. We love Versace's style, and we're hoping things don't change for the worse.

Obviously there has been no deal set in stone, but there are musings from the top of the company that this is a definite possibility. Wall Street gurus are rubbing their hands together in anticipation for the cashflow that a public Versace could bring.

Versace's assets count for a lot more than just clothes. They're the only fashion company that also runs a hotel; a magnificent hotel at that. It's things like this that make the IPO a veritable tidal wave of money.

Enough with the here-say, I guess we're just going to have to wait and see what happens. Until then, Drobers.

Resort Wear, Try Anywhere!

We are a little less than 3 months away from the premiere of Spring 2014 collections at fashion week. Do you need something to hold you over until then?
Perfect - because Resort 2014 collections are OUT!
Resort collections can be somewhat confusing though... Is it just a beachwear collection as the name suggests? It was initially a collection designed for the wealthy to wear on their mid-winter resort vacations, but has now shifted as a year-round seasonal trend for us all.
These inter-season collections mix functionality with fashion - containing everything from bathing suits to formal gowns, and basing most of their looks on nautical influences. So, with that, we present you the hottest trends from Resort 2014!

Sheer Overlays
Dior, Vera Wang, Bottega Veneta

Peek-a-boo! We've been seeing a lot of sheer fabrics throughout the past few seasons. Resort 2014 is continuing the trend with these see-through looks. The high-necklines and longer hems give these designs a tasteful sophistication.

Cropped
Versace, Jason Wu, Dior

Have you been killing yourself with crunches to obtain sculpted abs? These crop top ensembles are perfect to show off all of your hard work.

Mix & Match
Suno, See by ChloƩ, Jean Paul Gaultier

Who would have guessed that snakeskin and floral prints would go well together? Print mixing and matching is no new thing, but the Resort 2014 collections revived this look with a dash of unconventional freshness.

Stripes
Thakoon, Gucci, Rachel Zoe

Stripes are back! They're bold and adventurous; they're horizontal, vertical, and curved; they're black and white, clashing colors, and mixed prints. There are so many different ways to wear stripes this season!

Inspired!? Us too... now get shopping Drobers!

High End Fashion and the Economic Recession

When the American economy took a nosedive in 2008, now known as the "Great Recession", economists and analysts made predictions on the projected values of consumer goods for the coming years. Luckily for us Drobers, "High End Fashion" has remained largely untouched by the recession, just as those analysts predicted.

Worldwide, brands like Gucci, Prada, and Versace have shown burgeoning sales while other consumer goods have dropped dramatically. As the stock market and home prices continue to rise, and unemployment begins to fall, Americans are spending more money.

In early 2013, HermĆØs International reported a 21% increase in sales in the Americas for their fourth quarter. This trend continued with brands like Tiffany and Cartier, which makes us very happy Drobers to know that our favorites in fashion are alive and well, and definitely here to stay.

The impact of high end fashion isn't just on the runway and in your DROBE, as Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York City brings in 850 million annually, and that's nothing to laugh at. We could buy a lot of dresses with that. A lot.

Though this trend is expected to slow down, it still means that these high end brands are safe from the recession, and that they will continue to provide us with beautiful clothes and a style to die for. Maybe it's because their names precede their brands, or maybe its because their clothes are just that good. Either way, we at myDROBE are ecstatic.

The Best (And Worst) Looks of the Billboard Music Awards

The Billboard Music Awards last night was one for the record books. Everything that could have gone wrong, did go wrong: fans were kicked in the face, Beiber was booed, and Madonna forgot her pants. Luckily, some things went right on the Red Blue Carpet. Here's our favorites.

Starlet Selena Gomez blew our minds with this stunning Atelier Versace gown, Jimmy Choo Shoes, and jewelry by Neil Lane.  Not just for the Disney Channel anymore...

Destiny's Child singer Kelly Rowland looked gorgeous in this flashy metallic gown from Rami Al Ali.

There was no question that Taylor Swift dominated the show, winning eight out of eleven awards.  She also looked smoking hot in this dress by Zuhair Murad.

The stage wasn't the only place where things went wrong. Here's the worst styles of the night.

We get it. You're Madonna. But it's not the 80's any more, girl. This Givenchy Haute Couture outfit definitely dropped some jaws.

Miley Cyrus looks like she's about to play chess. On her legs. Or Chest. She can't decide. We're not sure if we approve of the Balmain jumpsuit. What do you think Drobers?

"Call Me Maybe" Singer Carly Rae Jepsen wore this interesting little frock by Dyanthe. Though not the worst wear we saw, this was definitely an ill fitting outfit for Miss Jepsen.

Cut-Out's... So hot right now. Check these out.

The Daily Drobe: Throwback Thursday is Renewing the Classy

The rain is still here and we're keeping it classy! Reflecting on the passing of Ottavio Missoni, we want to explore how fashion pioneers have evolved classic wear throughout the years and went on creating more hybrid, lush and vibrant styles. Missoni himself was a track and field star in the London 1948 Summer Olympics, and thus kick-started his line with athletic wear. His innovational takes are countless, from the classic kaleidoscopic designs to his use of fabrics such as wool, silk, linen and rayon. Missoni makes us rethink the classy rainwear: why not make it chic, fun and adventurous?

Let us celebrate by wearing Missoni today.
