Well Drobers, it's that time of year again. Time for barbecues, sun, and beer. Though the holiday is over, we'd like to nod our heads to those great Americans who are designing and creating some of our favorite clothes.
Marc Jacobs:
The youngest designer to grace this list, Marc Jacobs has truly made a name for himself in the fashion world. He has had his hand in some of the biggest names in fashion for years, as well as the head honcho of his own company which has over 200 retail locations all over the world. Since 1997, he has been the creative director of Louis Vuitton. To top all of it off, in 2010, Time Magazine named Jacobs as one of the 100 most influential people in the world. That's quite the title.
Vera Wang:
The fairy godmother of brides everywhere, American designer Vera Wang has become a household name. After splitting from fashion giant Ralph Lauren, she went on to develop her own line of wedding and bridesmaid's dresses, and has been an astounding success. In 2011, she launched her new line, "White by Vera Wang" as a more affordable alternative for consumers who still want her designs, but can't pay top dollar.
Oscar de la Renta:
Although Oscar de la Renta was born in the Dominican Republic, he is heralded as one of the most famous American designers of all time. Under the careful watching eye of mentor Cristรณbal Balenciaga, de la Renta crafted and formed his style in the 1960's. He went on to design clothes for Jackie Kennedy, possibly the most famous American fashion icon of all time, and has done work for major houses such as Lanvin and Balmain.
Calvin Klein:
There is not a single person in the continental U.S. who does not know the name Calvin Klein. He helped launch the career of Mark Wahlberg with his iconic underwear campaign, introduced the skinny jean, and still today remains one of the major players in the fashion industry. A native New Yorker from the Bronx, Klein is the definition of an American success story.
Ralph Lauren:
The man, the myth, the legend. He's the guy who started it all. Almost every big name in fashion you've ever heard of worked for this guy at one point. Vera Wang, Tory Burch, Thom Browne, Michael Bastian and John Varvatos, just to name a few. He is the Godfather, the standard-bearer of American fashion, and living breathing proof that you can make it in America.

We hope you enjoyed your independence day celebrations, and had a beer and a burger for us. Just remember, our independence, our freedom, comes at a price. Don't forget the brave men and women who have given their lives for that freedom.
We salute you, America, you beautiful bastard.
With Style,
Your MyDROBE Team
