In the East African country of Ethiopia, Liya Kebede is helping the ancestral-based company of Lemlem flourish. The supermodel, actress, and former World Health Organization's Goodwill Ambassador for Maternal, Newborn, and Child health, designs hand embroidered, beautifully woven cotton dresses and tops for women and children (and gifts galore) for more than just exceptional style, but to help rehabilitate a forgotten industry, with her company Lemlem.
In the Ethiopian language of Amharic, lemlem means to flourish or bloom. Kebede is one of the most influential women in her profession, and also one of the most philanthropic. She runs The Liya Kebede Foundation that aids mothers and their children.
She's a real-life superhero and an inspiration to all. If her magnaminity wasn't enough, the clothes are beautiful. Not only are they simple, comfortable, but they pop in a way that screams individuality and fashion-forward thinking.
It's beyond philanthropy. You can spur a budding economy, aid women and children and need, and awe of anyone who sees you.
