Everyone loves a trip down memory lane, and no one more so than those who were kids or teens during the 90's. It was the era of Boy Meets World, Doug Funny, All That, and of course, the Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Yet even more iconic than these tv shows, were the style trends. Bad hairdos, worse accessories, and probably the most interesting patterns and color schemes of any decade, ever. They say history repeats itself. That's true, at least for fashion. Retro fads brush off the dust from styles of yesteryear. Let's take a look back into the years when things were just more simple, and let's see what has changed.
Before we really delve into this little side by side comparison, I think we should take care of the elephant in the room. Overalls.
I don't know where and when these bad boys faded into obscurity, but here's to hoping they stay there. A long. Long. Long time. Ashton still manages to look good. Somehow.
There were very few things that NSYNC or the Backstreet Boys could have done wrong in the 90's.
I'm sorry to say that the bucket hat was definitely one of them.
There is no celebrity or person that lived through the 90's that could come close to topping Will Smith's colorful and zany style (I think zany is a word reserved for the 90's as well.)
Let's move on to some accessories, shall we?
Tattoo chokers. Enough said.
The pooka shell. The god damned pooka shell. It was understood: you go to the beach, you must return with pooka shells draped around your neck.
Butterfly clips? Anyone? Ok. I'll just go ahead and put 10 in.
Let's check out some of the hairstyles our favorite celebs were rockin'.
I don't know how anyone ever thought this looked good.
What the hell is going on here?
Anyone remember the Rachel? I do. No Rachel, your name isn't Jennifer. Not with this hairstyle.
It's like everyone woke up, rolled out of bed, looked in the mirror, and said "I'm gonna freak some people out today." So you've taken a walk down memory lane, seen the fashion faux pas of the past, and maybe placed an order for a ten set of tattoo chokers. Luckily, I don't think these styles will make a huge come back. So strap on your moon shoes, grab your inflatable furniture, and turn up that Britney Spears CD, because we're leaving the 90's in style.
With Style,
