Humans of New York vs. DKNY

If you live in New York, have been to New York, or just love seeing quirky, sarcastic, and evocative images... you should know about Humans of New York.

For those of you who don't know, this blog captures the soul, sense of humor, and flavor of New York. Not the rich and famous, but the nitty gritty.

Recently Brandon Stanton, the photographer behind the lens of Humans of New York, was apprached by DKNY to assist them in their new campaign. DKNY wanted to purchase 300 of Brandon's photos at $50 a piece to display in their store windows. He politely declined thinking this was slightly below standard.

You can guess what happened next... Images surfaced of Brandon's photographs being used without his consent in DKNY's Bangkok store (below). Social Media OUTRAGE ensued!

Brandon went public and requested 100k to Brooklyn YMCA kids to go to Summer camp to undo the wrong done. Hate mail messages flooded DKNY's facebook page including Carolina Herrera who wrote 'WTF Donna Karan!"... We were surprised by that one! Sassy!

DKNY's PR responded stat with a public apology and a check for 25k to the kids. Brandon gave up the quest, accepted the check, and gave DKNY the benefit of the doubt that it was an honest mistake.

Social media won and Brooklyn YMCA now has some happy campers!
Proving we can never underestimate the power of social media!

But its ok Donna, we still love your clothes...

With Style,
Your MyDrobe Team
